Areas Of Concern Noted At Monthly Board Of Public Works Meeting
Several areas of concern were reported by Holden Water Superintendent Tony Lerda at the Tuesday, July 2 meeting of the Holden Board of Public Works.
Sewer System
Regarding the city’s sewer system, he reported there are pipes failing and completely blocked through the city’s field between the old swimming pool area and 14th Street. He noted the sewer main along S. Main Street, north of 14th Street has a few bad areas and one section of pipe gone. This, he said, may best be repaired with spot digs.
Lerda added there also are joints with root intrusion along S. Main Street between 8th Street and 7th Street. Plus, the sewer main along S. Lexington, north of 6th Street to the alley also is in very poor condition, inundated with broken sections.
Lerda explained this main lays beneath a water main. He noted it could be repaired with pipe bursting or pipe lining. To replace it would require moving the water main above it.
He went on by saying there are many joints with root intrusion behind the homes along S. Lexington Street north of 17th Street.
Lerda then passed out a quote to the Board showing a price of $9/ft. The quote total was $90,000.
The company making the quote stated they would clean and video pipes and install the pipe liner. There was no completed video currently because of too many roots.
Although a root saw would be helpful, that can’t be utilized until replacement parts arrive and are installed to return it to working order. Once that happens, the root saw will be used to clear out as many roots as possible. Lerda said he is hopeful some video will be able to be obtained.
