Long-Time Fixture In Downtown Holden To Close

Store Closing Announced… Walker’s Five & Dime, a long-time fixture in downtown Holden, will be closing at the end of this week. Saturday, June 1, will be the store’s last day of business. The announcement was made this past weekend by owners Scotty and Paula Walker. The store will be closed until Thursday, June 6, when it will re-open and begin a retirement/liquidation sale. All merchandise will be on sale, as well as all furniture and equipment. In addition, the buildings will be for sale. The couple said although business was still good, the changing landscape, the waning of their spark and desire, and their wish to have some enjoyment in life past work were all motivations for the decision.
