A new family-run business opened this past summer in Kingsville.

ADJ Countryside Propane, LLC, owned by Stoney and Myra Hutchings, is offering a variety of propane services for residents in an area that encompasses eight local towns.

ADJ offers bulk propane, cylinder/bottle exchanges and fills, tank leases, in-season pre-buys, tank change-outs, new construction, and Ken Hill is on staff for repairs to furnaces, water heaters, etc. The business serves both residential and commercial customers.

The new company officially opened for business on July 6, 2020. They are located at 386 SW T Highway in Kingsville.

Stoney and Myra are both lifelong Holden residents. Three out of the five employees at ADJ are family members.

When asked why they thought this business would be a good fit for this area at this time, Myra relates, “Recently, the local company providing much of the propane business in the surrounding area for 30-plus years sold out. Big business took over.

“Family, friends and acquaintances were expressing their unhappiness with the services left available.”

Myra went on to say she and Stoney felt they could offer better customer service to those in the area and provide needed energy products and services.

So, ADJ was born! The interesting business name came from the initials of Stoney and Myra’s children – Alyssa, Dennis and Jill – ADJ.

Myra said they saw this need in the community and surrounding towns and decided to try their hand at filling those needs.

“We saw this need, but with little to no experience, we had the opportunity to enlist the expertise, knowledge and experience found with Ken Hill,” Myra explained.

Ken is the repair technician and brings to ADJ more than 35 years of experience from his prior employer, Heet Gas Co. He was willing to come aboard to continue to service his past customers.

Currently, ADJ is servicing Kingsville, Holden, Chilhowee, Leeton, Blairstown, Strasburg, Centerview and Warrensburg.

ADJ has expansion plans, as they are in the process of setting another bulk tank on the west edge of Chilhowee.

Stoney has owned and operated his own business prior to ADJ, so he has experience. He has been in the agricultural business since before he and Myra were married, beginning with the family farming operation.

Then in 2001, Stoney began a partnership with a close friend who serviced the ag needs of this area, including seed, chemical, fertilizer application needs, for more than 13 years.

In 2014, Stoney and Myra began a new ag business currently in operation, bringing their son Dennis on board to join the S&M AgriServices business, as well as the family farming operation.

ADJ’s staff members are what makes them unique, according to Myra, and they each bring their own skill set to the growing business.
Staff members include Ken Hill and the Hutchings’ son Dennis, who is managing the business.

Also a part of the ADJ team is Nicole Ayler VanMeter, a neighbor and family friend since birth. She fills the role of office coordinator.

Nicole also has prior experience and skills, having worked in this capacity in the past. All three employees have been life-long residents within ADJ’s service area.

Myra shares that being a prior military leader, their son Dennis brings experience in working in this capacity as a strong leader of their team.

Dennis is also working alongside Ken doing change-outs, leak checks and deliveries.

According to Myra, ADJ’s vision is to become the company name that comes to mind when anyone mentions propane or furnace/water heater repairs.

“Our highest priority is customer service – our mission is to provide the BEST service possible for our customers,” Myra said.
One of ADJ’s first goals is to be servicing 500-600 customers within their first five years.

The Hutchings realize the value of working and living in a small town, and plan to always take care of their neighbors with a variety of high quality services.

“The most positive thing about living and working in a small rural community is the ability to put a name to a face and relate to customers as more than just a customer or a number – our customers are neighbors, family and friends,” Myra said.

ADJ runs seasonal specials, such as their summer fill and pre-buys, which were offered this summer and ended July 31. The special will be offered again next year.

Stop by ADJ to see what services they have to offer your family. Office hours are Monday through Friday, from 8-11:30 a.m., and 12:30-5 p.m. They can also be reached by phone at 816-597-3388.

“We would like to thank our current customers for their patronage,” said Myra. “We are excited and look forward to continued customer growth.

“Please contact our office at 816-597-3388 for your propane services.”
