1st Annual Cornhole Tourney Successful
On Saturday, May 23, Camp Valor Outdoors hosted its First Annual Cornhole Tournament, much to the delight of those participating and an excited crowd of onlookers.
Organizers report the tournament was a huge success, with 20 two-man teams competing.
When the smoke cleared from the heat of the competition, four men were left standing as first and second place winners. The unbeatable team of Nick Kennedy and Adam Paneitz took first place honors, and the second place team was CVO founder, John Schwent and his Uncle Dan Schwent.
“It was an amazing day for an amazing cause!” John Schwent said.
Winners received a 25 percent payout, as well as a special prize.
The tournament was a fundraiser for CVO and the majority of the entry fee money goes to support the mission of Camp Valor Outdoors.
The $40 entry fee also included a BBQ meal and two bottles of beer or water for competitors.
The event was open to anyone who wanted to play and enjoy a day of fun and fellowship.
In addition to the tournament, CVO offered those attending a chance to go fishing, games of horseshoe pitching, and a bonfire after sunset.
“This was intended to be a fun-filled evening for us to get together in the great outdoors, have a little competition, and enjoy some fellowship,” said Schwent.
By all accounts the event met and exceeded expectations on the amount of fun and fellowship it provided.
Camp Valor Outdoors is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to military veterans. According to CVO’s website, it was formed to recognize and honor ill, injured and wounded disabled veterans and their families.
This is achieved through adaptive and competitive activities, such as guided fishing, hunting, shooting, archery, 4-wheeling, or just simply relaxing around the campfire.
All branches of the military, from any generation, are welcome at Camp Valor Outdoors (including active-duty, case-by-case).
Organizers and volunteers at CVO understand the challenges that veterans and their families face after military service, particularly if they have injuries and illnesses.
“Warriors are never alone on the battlefield and shouldn’t be alone when they come back home,” the CVO website says.
“Healing in the great outdoors with Camp Valor Outdoors and reconnecting with fellow warriors is therapeutic and essential to healing.”
All activities, airfare, lodging, etc. are free to wounded or ill veterans, and Camp Valor Outdoors has ongoing fundraisers to be able to provide these great outdoor experiences to the heroes they serve.
If you would like to help support wounded warriors and the services, programs and resources Camp Valor makes available to them, please send your tax deductible donation to Camp Valor Outdoors, 1527 SW 300 Rd., Kingsville, MO 64061.
Or, your donation may be made online at www.campvaloroutdoors.org.
Please consider supporting CVO and its important mission in serving our war heroes and make a real difference in the life of a veteran.
