Routine Reports, Business Items Taken Up At City Council December Meeting
Routine reports and business items were taken up when the Holden City Council gathered for its monthly meeting, Dec. 19.
After approval of minutes and expenditures, the council heard from Selena Garten, an area resident, who presented her foundation, the Phoenix Network, to the council.
She said the foundation will provide resources and support to families of addicts. She wanted the council to be aware of the foundation so that city officials could make referrals if they encounter someone who could benefit from the foundation.
Mayor Ray Briscoe then publicly thanked City Attorney Doug Harris for his service to Holden and indicated this was the last council meeting he would attend due to leaving private practice.
He then went on to recount some of the successes of 2024 and reminded everyone that the deadline to file to run for city council in the April 2025 election is Dec. 31, 2024.
Holden Police Chief David Mayhew also thanked attorney Harris for his advice and his service to the City of Holden.
He then presented his report and gave an update on the department renovation, stating the work is about 80 percent complete.
