Holden City Council Has Busy September
The Holden City Council held its monthly meeting on September 19, 2024 at 7:00 p.m.
All of the council members were present at roll call. The Mayor made a motion to move Bill No. 09-04-24 – Authorization in Issuance of bonds to the front of the council agenda to accommodate the commute time of Sid Douglas. This motion passed unanimously without discussion.
The City Council approved the monthly appropriations/expenditures presented at the Finance and Budget Committee meeting. Councilwoman Mallory abstained from the vote and the appropriations/expenditures passed without discussion.
The floor was open to anyone who signed up for public comment. Steve Thelen stood in support of the fire truck agreement. He commended the Police Chief and the Fire Chief for doing their due diligence in investigating all courses of action to locate the best investments for the bond funds.
Tracy Brantner with the Johnson County Economic Development Corporation gave a brief presentation about what her organization does for the city in preparation for Resolution No. R24-29 investment vote upcoming on the agenda. She thanked Holden for its support of JCEDC in the past.
Mayor Ray Briscoe then thanked the entire city staff for their hard work and efforts to make the annual street fair a success. The first responders were vital in maintaining public safety; the street department for their cleanup efforts during and after the fair and for setting the barricades; and the staff at City Hall responding to questions by the public regarding events. He noted that City Hall received a thank you letter from the Holden Chamber of Commerce as well.
