R-I Board Approves Policies; Hears Reports
The Kingsville School Board approved several policies and heard an education report at its regular September 9 meeting.
Tracy Brantner, from Johnson County Economic Development Corporation, presented a report to the board on the 2021 Education and Economic Development Partnership.
In financial news, board members approved the updated 2021-22 district budget.
Principal Jay Fleeman shared enrollment numbers as of September 1, with the board. Fleeman said, “Elementary enrollment is at 125 students, and secondary enrollment stands at 106.”
He also reported on attendance, saying the elementary average is 99.84 percent, and secondary attendance is 99.75 percent, for a total K-12 average of 99.80 percent.
Fleeman also shared upcoming dates of note, including: September 20 – first quarter midterm; and September 22 – is picture day.
Superintendent Lorna Warren reported the board approved the updated Employee Manual for the 2021-22 school year with updates to Employee Leave and Absences (E-115-E), Employee Health and Safety (E-125-E), and Use of Recording Devices and Drones (C-165-E). The board also approved the updates made to board policies C-165-P – Use of Recording Devices or Drones, and I-125-P – Special Education and Section 504; and the addition of policy I-126-P – Independent Educational Evaluations. In salary news, the board approved adding the yearbook sponsor into the Extra-Duty Schedule at a pay rate of two percent of the base.
Fleeman also shared reports by teachers, who all say the new school year is off to a great start and students are excited to be part of in-person classes again.
